Three Musketeers and The Count

T for Tuesday!

This Tuesday I am writing a post for the letter T.

This is the last week for A to Z Challenge.

The first book that I have selected is The Three Musketeers.

This is a historical novel written by Alexandre Dumas in 1844.

The book has been adapted fro films, television, stage, video games and so many other things.

Let me share some amazing quotes from this novel.

1. There is no friendship that cares about an overheard secret.

2. I do not cling to life sufficiently to fear death.

3. We must never expect discretion in first love: it is accompanied by such excessive joy that unless the joy is allowed to overflow, it will choke you.

4. It is only the dead who do not return.

5. In general, people only ask for advice that they may not follow it; or, if they should follow it, that they may have somebody to blame for having given it.

6. Hard decisions, sacrifices doesn’t keep you warm at night, life’s too damn short, too damn long to continue without someone at your side.

7. Good fortune is the best of all mistresses.

8. Your bitter memories still have time to turn into sweet ones.

9. Men who swear undying love sometimes have the worst intentions in the world.

10. What fragile and unknown threads the destinies of nations and the lives of men are suspended.

11. The heart of the best woman is pitiless toward the sorrows of a rival.

12.  It is well known, what strikes the capricious mind of the poet is not always what affects the mass of readers.

13. Never be afraid of opportunities, always be on the lookout for adventures.

14. We feel always a sort of mental superiority over those whose lives we know better than they suppose.

15. Fortune is a courtesan; favorable yesterday, she may turn her back tomorrow.

16. Never fear quarrels, but seek hazardous adventures.

17. Love is the most selfish of all the passions.

18. The merit of all things lies in their difficulty.

I like each and every quote in this collection.

Have you read this book? Please do share your views and quotes from this book.

I recently read another book by the same author. It was The Count of Monte Cristo. I enjoyed reading this book too. I felt the adventures and emotions in the book. I should have shared this book in my post for letter C.

Better late than never...!

Here are few of my favorite quotes.

1. I am not proud, but I am happy; and happiness blinds, I think, more than pride.

2. All human wisdom is contained in these two words - Wait and Hope

3. We are always in a hurry to be happy...; for when we have suffered a long time, we have great difficulty in believing in good fortune.

4. Hatred is blind; rage carries you away; and he who pours out vengeance runs the risk of tasting a bitter draught.

5. It is not the tree that forsakes the flower, but the flower that forsakes the tree.

6. God is merciful to all, as he has been to you; he is first a father, then a judge.

7. We frequently pass so near to happiness without seeing, without regarding it, or if we do see and regard it, yet without recognizing it.

8. Live, for a day will come when you will be happy and bless life.

9. Philosophy cannot be taught; it is the application of the sciences to truth.

10. Youth is a blossom whose fruit is love; happy is he who plucks it after watching it slowly ripen.

This book is filled with many such beautiful words. I would like to know views about this book and the collection of quotes.

Thank you for visiting.

  1. 5. In general, people only ask for advice that they may not follow it; or, if they should follow it, that they may have somebody to blame for having given it.

This one is so true! I don't think people really want advice even when they ask for it. Giving it never benefits either party.

Both excellent classics! of T3M quotes ..."I do not cling to life sufficiently to fear death.".. is rather Vedantic! The rest of the novel of course is not, being very much the gust of the worldly!
Of your CoMC quotes..."Philosophy cannot be taught; it is the application of the sciences to truth.".. is my pick today. YAM xx
