O for Oliver and the old man

"Ow are you all?

Wish you all a very happy Tuesday!

I had decided a long ago. Decided what?

The books, of course!

Yes, I am sharing my favorite books and amazing quotes. I am doing it as a part of A to Z challenge.

The letter of the day is O.

Today I was sure (unlike Post for N).

First book that I will be sharing with you all is Oliver Twist.

I read this book when I was in school. I remember feeling all the emotions and adventures that Oliver goes through.

I can read this book today and still feel the same way.

Here are some facts:

* Author : Charles Dickens

* Second novel by the author

*Originally published as monthly installments in a magazine

* Many film adaptations and a theater production

Let me share the quotes now:

6 amazing quotes from Oliver Twist

1. How slight a thing will disturb the equanimity of our frail minds!

2. Dignity, and even holiness too, sometimes, are more questions of coat and waistcoat than some people imagine.

3. It is because I think so much of warm and sensitive hearts, that I would spare them from being wounded.

4. Some people are nobody's enemies but their own.

5. It opens the lungs, washes the countenance, exercises the eyes, and softens down the temper, said Mr. Bumble. So cry away.

6. There is a passion for hunting something deeply implanted in the human breast.

Second book that I will be sharing is The Old Man and the Sea.

I read this book much later than Oliver Twist. It is totally different genre. It was a bit complex to understand at first. It was just like my experience with Moby Dick.

It took me two weeks to complete the reading. But, I liked the book very much. Sadly, I don't have that book in my personal collection.

I would like to share some facts:

* Author : Ernest Hemingway

* Short novel with 127 pages

* Genre : Literary fiction

* Published in 1952

* Awarded Pulitzer prize in 1953

Here are the quotes:

6 beautiful quotes from The Old Man and the Sea

1. Every day is a new day. It is better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact. Then when luck comes you are ready.

2. I may not be as strong as I think, but I know many tricks and I have resolution.

3. Now is no time to think of what you do not have. Think of what you can do with what there is.

4. Age is my alarm clock,” the old man said. “Why do old men wake so early? Is it to have one longer day?

5. No one should be alone in their old age, he thought. But it is unavoidable.

6. Man is not much beside the great birds and beasts.

As always, it is time to ask about your favorite quotes from this collection.

I would like to know if you have read one or both the books from this post. Do share your views and feedback.

Have a nice time!

    Two of my all-time faves today Jui! Who among us could not connect with young Oliver? My fave quote from here is
    ..."How slight a thing will disturb the equanimity of our frail minds!"... because it comes closest to Vedantic understanding.
    TOMAS is a book we had to read for our A-level English (yes, in ancient times!) and I have never forgotten it. Time to re-read, methinks, now that the age is so much closer to me now.
    ..."Man is not much beside the great birds and beasts."

  4. There are some lovely quotes there! I admit I haven’t got around to reading these, though I have read other Dickens novels. I’m glad you felt the Hemingway book was worth the effort. Moby Dick is a LOT longer! I gather that one is on a lot of book lists at US schools and goodness, people complain about it on line!
