Lat few days for A to Z challenge.
Today I will be sharing book s that start with the letter W.
I have decide to share three wonderful books and quotes from the same.
First book that I have selected is Wuthering Heights.
This is a novel by Emily Bronte. The book was published in 1847.
Let me share the quotes.
1. Honest people don't hide their deeds.
2. A person who has not done one half his day's work by ten o'clock, runs a chance of leaving the other half undone.
3. Treachery and violence are spears pointed at both ends; they wound those who resort to them worse than their enemies.
4. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same
5. Time brought resignation and a melancholy sweeter than common joy.
6. It is for God to punish wicked people; we should learn to forgive.
7. We must be for ourselves in the long run; the mild and generous are only more justly selfish than the domineering.

Next book that I have selected is The War of the Worlds.
This novel by H.G. Wells belongs to science fiction genre. It was published in 1898.
Here are few of my favorite quotes.
1. Few people realize the immensity of vacancy in which the dust of the material universe swims.
2. With infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter.
3. Surely, if we have learned nothing else, this war has taught us pity—pity for those witless souls that suffer our dominion.
4. By the toll of a billion deaths man has bought his birthright of the earth, and it is his against all comers.
5. The immediate pressure of necessity has brightened their intellects, enlarged their powers, and hardened their hearts.
I have watched the movie released by the same name in 2005.
Have you read the book and watched this movie? What did you like the most?
Now, last but certainly not the least. The third book that I will be sharing is War and Peace.
This is a celebrated novel by spectacular Russian author Leo Tolstoy.
This book was published in 1869.
Following are some of the beautiful quotes from War and Peace.
1. We can know only that we know nothing. And that is the highest degree of human wisdom.
2. If everyone fought for their own convictions there would be no war.
3. The strongest of all warriors are these two — Time and Patience.
4. There is no greatness where there is not simplicity, goodness, and truth.
5. If we admit that human life can be ruled by reason, then all possibility of life is destroyed.
6. Pure and complete sorrow is as impossible as pure and complete joy.
7. Writing laws is easy, but governing is difficult.
8. We love people not so much for the good they've done us, as for the good we've done them.
9. A battle is won by him who is firmly resolved to win it.
10. For if we allow that human life is always guided by reason, we destroy the premise that life is possible at all.
I can just go on and on quoting beautiful words by Tolstoy.
This is it for today. I hope you will like the quotes and books. Do share your favorite books and quotes in the comments.
Have a nice weekend.

ReplyDeleteThree of my personal faves here today Jui! I love this quote..."It is for God to punish wicked people; we should learn to forgive."... WoftheW is a fabulous read and the Tom Cruise film was possibly the worst rendition of it, sorry to say. The 1953 film didn't follow the story faithfully, but had much more charm about it! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9T9f3UbGuo) However, the definitive version for me is the recorded story read by Richard Burton and music by Jeff Wayne (http://www.thewaroftheworlds.com) The BBC is in production of a more accurate version for television (http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2018/war-of-the-worlds)
The first time I read War and Peace was at 10 years of age -shocking my school teachers with such precociousness! Have read it in total eight times... time to do it again! YAM xx
