F for Fairy tales

Weekend is here.

It is the day for sixth letter in alphabet. I am posting this as a part of A to Z challenge.

Today, I will be sharing beautiful quotes from Fairy Tales.

Hans Christian Andersen has written many fairy tales.

I remember reading all those wonderful stories when I was a kid. Fairy tales were a big part of my childhood. I re-read the books even now.

I never think of fairy tales as something only written for children.

These books are timeless classics. It has no age-limit.

These stories helped a lot in building imagination and creativity. My fondness for reading and writing is also somewhat related to these stories.

This post is sort of a tribute to the amazing author. It is my way of thanking him for making my childhood a lot better.

I am sure you must have read some or all the books (like me!). I know that you must have at least heard the stories, watched movies from these wonderful books.

Let us start exploring the quotes now.

I will post the tile of the book  followed by the quotes.

The Little Mermaid (1837)

But a mermaid has no tears, and therefore she suffers so much more.
I loved the book so much. I still get emotional while reading the parts where mermaid gets legs while loosing her beautiful voice.

Coming to another book that is very poplar.

The Ugly Duckling (1843)

It is only with the heart that one can see clearly, for the most essential things are invisible to the eye.
– ANTONIE DE SAINTE EXUPERY (The Little Prince)
*This quote as pointed out in comments is from another book - The Little Price

I did find the same quote in the quote listings for book The Ugly Duckling.  (source)

I would like to share another quote from The Ugly Duckling.

He now felt glad at having suffered sorrow and trouble, because it enabled him to enjoy so much better all the pleasure and happiness around him

I remember feeling proud at the moment the duckling grows up and decides to face the world. It really is a beautiful story.

Next book in my list is -

The Steadfast Tin Soldier (1838)

Brave soldier, never fear.Even though your death is near.

The Story of a Mother (1847)

Death walks faster than the wind and never returns what he has taken.

So many wonderful quotes are there in the books. Please do read them. It will make you smile, cry and you will learn a lot about life.

I would like to present a list of fairy tales other than the four featured in the quotes:

  1. The little match girl
  2. The princess and the pea
  3. The emperor's new clothes
  4. The steadfast tin soldier
  5. Thumbelina
  6. The nightingale
  7. The tinderbox
  8. The wild swans
  9. The red shoes
  10. The swineherd
  11. The flying trunk
  12. The ice-maiden
  13. The shepherdess and the chimney sweep
  14. The angel
  15. Little Claus and big Claus
  16. The fir tree
  17. The teapot
  18. The snowman
  19. Blockhead Hans
  20. The buckwheat
  21. The snow queen
I have read all these and more books in my childhood. Beautiful illustrations of these stories also used to be an attraction for reading the book.

I will meet you soon with a brand new post and inspiring quotes for the letter G.

Have a nice time!

Had read quite a lot of HCA in childhood - but not recalled this quote as being his. Rather, I know it from Antoine de Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince. One is now wondering if he was not so original as one thought! YAM xx

    1. Yes..that is true.

Both the books are published in the same year. I am not sure about the mix up.

I will update it with the original writer. Thank you for pointing out.

  3. I always enjoyed Hans Christian Andersen in my childhood, though they so often end sadly. Not always! And they have made a difference. I think that "The Emperor's New Clothes" has become a part of our culture. When you say, "He has no clothes!" we know what you mean. Terry Pratchett had some fun with "The Little Match Girl" in his novel, Hogfather, where Death, who is filling in for the missing Santa Claus figure, refuses to let her die and his manservant Albert has to throw snowballs at the angels who have come to collect her, to make them go away. Juliet Marillier used "The Wild Swans" as inspriation for her novel Daughter Of The Forest. "The Red Shoes" was the basis for one of the great ballet films of all time. Wasn't "Frozen" inspired by "The Snow Queen"?

  5. I alluded to The Emperor's New Clothes the other day. Anyone who doesn't know the story would think I was crazy for posting, "Just because you don't say anything doesn't mean the Emperor isn't naked!"
I LOVE fairy and folktales! I'm not really fond of Andersen's though.
